SEOUL, KOREA - POSCO Engineering & Construction said on January 27 that it won the second-stage project for wastewater treatment plants in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. The total project volume is US$120 million, with POSCO's share estimated at $70 million. The length of the construction will be 54 months.

 

The second-stage project was planned after it was found that the existing 141,000-ton plants were incapable of treating wastewater discharged from the city of 8 million residents. The new project calls for building a 328,000-ton capacity so that the completed facilities could process a total of 469,000 tons of sewage water by 2018. The city officials expect that the new plants could help improve the water quality of the Tac Ben Ro River significantly.

 

Partners to the project include OTV, a subsidiary of France's Veolia Water Solutions & Technologies, and Japan's Hitachi. POSCO E&C will be responsible for civil engineering and construction works, while OTV in charge of water treatment equipment supply and installation and Hitachi in sludge equipment procurement and installation. The three companies' shares in the project are 57, 32, and 11 percent, respectively.
