SEOUL, KOREA - Hyundai Motor is set to release the New Genesis in the U.S. market within this month and disclosed the retail price through its local business unit on April 3.
On the basis of the RWD model with an engine displacement of 3.8 liters, the retail price of the New Genesis is set at US$38,000 or about 40.3 million won, up 7.9 percent or $2,800 compared to that of the existing Genesis.
The price of the 3.8-liter AWD model which is mounted with 4WD is set at $40,500, while that of the 5.0-liter RWD model at $51,500.
Given that the domestic sales price of the G380 Exclusive, whose engine displacement is the same as that of the RWD model, is 55.1 million won, the U.S. sales price of the RWD model is much cheaper at 40.3 million won.
At first glance, the price of the Korean version is about 14 million won higher than that of the American version, having the potential that a controversy erupts among Korean consumers over unfairness in pricing.
Hyundai Motor, however, said that the Korean version includes far more convenience specs. In addition, its price includes the 18.6-percent tax that is not included in the price of the U.S. model.
