SEOUL, KOREA - Hyundai Motor said on April 4 that it was selected as a company to deliver 75 hydrogen-powered vehicles for the European Union. Earlier, the Korean car maker had participated in a bidding for the "Hydrogen for Innovative Vehicles" (HyFive) project funded by the EU government jointly with the likes of Mercedes-Benz, BMW, Toyota, and Honda. Of the five consortium partners, Hyundai will supply the highest number of hydrogen cars to Germany, Britain, and Italy.

 

On the 3rd, the company held a ceremony in London with the city government, another consortium partner, to celebrate the winning of the project. London's Vice Mayor Kit Malthouse, FCH JU (Fuel Cells and Hydrogen Joint Undertaking) executive director Bert De Colvenaer, president of Hyundai Motor Europe Rhim Byung-kwon, and other dignitaries were in attendance.

 

The Hyundai Tucson SUVs will comprise the majority of the 110 vehicles delivered to several European cities. The hydrogen-powered Tucson ix can drive 549 kilometers on a single charge, comparable to a fuel efficiency of 27.8 kilometers per liter for a gasoline-powered car.
