President Lee Myung-bak proposed the founding of an Asia Forest Cooperation Organization and pledged to donate US$200 million to ASEAN member countries and East Asian nations through East Asia Climate Partnership. He made the proposal and the pledge in his keynote speech
He also pledged to "give active support to ASEAN so that it can build a virtuous cycle between economic growth and responses to climate change by creating new growth engines through green projects." He then proposed the founding of an Asia Forest Cooperation Organization as a way to deal jointly with climate change and asked the ASEAN nations for proactive cooperation and support in this regard.
