Dr. Choi Pyeong-rak, the new president of the Korea Electronics Technology Institute

As a partner of small venture firms, the Korea Electronics Technology Institute (KETI) is dedicated to helping the development of small and medium-sized enterprises, with a focus on electronics technologies, including electronic component development and systems development. It is a government-funded think tank founded in August 1991 for the purpose of developing leading-edge technologies and creating new industries in electronic components, materials and devices, and helping small venture firms achieve technological innovations.

KETI is rated as Korea's best educational consortium R&D institute and a full-package service provider for small venture firms. The organization is committed to creating new growth engines for the country by developing key leading-edge green and fusion technologies. It helps to improve the industrial structure and create new jobs.

Dr. Choi Pyeong-rak took office as the fifth president of the KETI on May 6 this year on an upbeat note. He pledged to achieve the vision of helping small venture firms carry out technological innovations, develop leading-edge technologies and create new industries. Upon being inaugurated, he called on the KETI staff to "join the nationwide efforts to expand investment in IT, software and a Green New Deal, give more support to small venture firms, and stabilize the employment market by creating jobs and training technical personnel."

To elaborate on his IT policy, he said, "We should take the lead in the efforts to expand the country's growth potential by turning major industries into green ones and making a select combination of new technologies such as IT, biotechnology and nanotechnology. We should also support industries to enhance the efficiency of their energies and expand environmentally-friendly markets."

To realize his think tank's visions, he called for painstaking efforts to make KETI a world-class R&D center. By the same token, he pledged to seek "value-oriented management," recruit and train "future-oriented talented manpower," consolidate "communications networks," and build his institute as a "Smart KETI."

For the sustainable growth of KETI, he urged his staff to endlessly seek changes based on enthusiasm, dedication, creativity, a challenging spirit and morality. KETI should wisely cope with the current rapidly changing period by developing new technologies and concentrating its energy on creating a new customer and business model, the new KETI president said.

He then asked his staff to have candid discussions on major issues and other matters of concern, and implement projects in an efficient way. He also pledged to do his best to join his think tank's efforts to achieve abundant R&D results, while giving credit to the KETI staff for having contributed to their institute's rapid growth over the past 18 years.

He said emphatically, "KETI is ready to grow as a top-notch think tank in the field of electronic technologies by developing and securing state-of-the-art technologies with global competitiveness. KETI will take the lead in improving the quality of life and enhancing Korea's reputation as a digital power by developing leading-edge fusion technologies that can create new growth engines and green information technologies that can contribute to human welfare."

The new KETI president then promised to "help small venture firms achieve technological innovations and make practical use of them, while developing leading-edge technologies and creating new industries."
