SEOUL, KOREA - Kia Motors announced on May 19 that its cumulative global sales exceeded 29.9 million units as of the end of April.Considering that its monthly domestic and foreign sales averaged at 260,000 units this year, its cumulative global sales are likely to pass the 30-million mark within May.
Kia Motors will achieve the historic milestone in 52 years after it produced Korea’s first three-wheel cargo truck K-360 at its Sohari factory in 1962.
Among Kia models, Pride, which was released first in 1987 and now has become its flagship small sedan, was the best-selling model with sales of 3.46 million units, followed by Sportage, released in 1993, with 3.11 million units, and Sorento, released in 2002, with 2.02 million units.
Kia Motors has achieved a remarkable growth since it was incorporated into the Hyundai Motor Group in 2000. From the beginning of 2000 to April 2014, its sales stood at 22.59 million units, a figure equivalent to three fourths of its total cumulative sales.
