SEOUL, KOREA - Samsung Electronics is growing fast in China, the world’s largest UHD TV market, thanks to its active marketing of below-$1,000 popular-type models there.
Samsung Electronics officials said on May 20, “We are actively marketing UHD TVs in China by setting up large-scale brand shops in major cities, including Beijing and Tianjin. In a recent weekly sales ranking, Samsung shot up to the No. 1 position.”
To keep abreast of its high-quality brand image, Samsung Electronics released only $3,000-$5,000 high-priced UHD models last year. From this year, however, Samsung started marketing low- and mid-priced models aimed at grabbing a higher share in the world’s largest market.
The 48-inch popular-type 2D UHD TV, which was released at a price of 6,380 yuan ($1,023) in March, is now available at a price of 4,900 yuan ($786) at online stores. This is a level similar to those of Chinese companies such as Skyworth (49-inch model for $869) and TCL (49-inch model for $985).
According to market research firm Gfk, Samsung Electronics’ share in China’s LCD TV market is likely to rise from 10.56 percent in the first quarter to 11.91 percent in the second.
