SEOUL, KOREA - KT, which is leading a paradigm shift in Korea’s telecom industry, announced on May 21 that its LTE subscribers passed the 9-million mark in about two years and four months after it commercialized LTE services, on the back of its effort to lower handset prices and improve customer satisfaction.
KT launched LTE services in January 2012, about a half year later than its rivals. Thereafter, it has made utmost efforts in narrowing the gap by focusing on the improvement of network quality and the maximization of consumer satisfaction.
To reduce consumer burdens arising from higher telecom fees, KT lowered the prices of its two dedicated handsets, including the Galaxy S4 Mini and Optimus GK. As a result, it has attracted 250,000 subscribers during the 20 days when it operated solely while other two mobile operators were under business suspension.
Ignited by KT’s such move, other telecom companies started reducing the retail prices of their dedicated handsets, including the G2, Optimus G Pro, Vega Iron, and iPhone 5C.
