SEOUL, KOREA - Porsche Korea officially launched its brand-new SUV Macan on May 20, opening a new era of competition in Korea’s mid-sized luxury SUV market.
Porsche Korea is promoting the Macan under the slogan of compact SUV but the model is regarded as a mid-sized SUV due to its size.
The length and width of the Macan is 4.68 meters and 1.92 meters, respectively, bigger than Hyundai Motor’s Santa Fe which is 4.69 meters long and 1.88 meters wide.
At present, Korea’s mid-sized premium import SUV market is led by BMW X3 and Audi Q5 which were sold 1,860 units and 1,128 units, respectively, last year.
Porsche Korea set the retail price of the Macan S at 84.8 million own. The price of Macan S Diesel which is slated to be released in June is set at 82.4 million won. Porsche Korea also plans to release four-cylinder 2.0-liter engine-mounted Macan Entry Trim within the second half of this year. The retail prices of BMW X3 and Audi Q5 are 58.7 million won-88.1 million won and 48.9 million won-53.6 million won, respectively.
