SEOUL, KOREA - GM Korea said on May 25 that the cumulative number of its completely knock-down kit export volume would be in excess of 10 million by the end of this month. The company held on the 23rd an event celebrating the 10-million knock-down kit export milestone at its Bupyung headquarters, with executives and employees in attendance including the president Sergio Rocha and vice president in charge of purchasing Rowina Fornica. It took the company 12 years to reach the level.
The knock-down kit export numbers were 120,000 in 2002, followed by 1 million in 2005 and 5 million in 2010. Currently the company is selling the CKD kits to a total of 17 countries including Uzbekistan (Cielo and Lacetti), Mexico (Gentra), Russia (Cruze and Aveo), Brazil (Cruze), China (Lacetti and Captiva), and India (Spark).
Knock-down kits or CKDs are kits containing the parts needed to assemble automobiles. It is a method of supplying parts to other markets, particularly in shipping to foreign nations, and serves as a way of counting or pricing.
