At the G3 global launching event held on May 28, Park showed his will to solidify LG’s No. 3 position in the global smartphone market behind Samsung and Apple in terms of both sales volume and value.
Park added, “Our first-quarter performance was meaningful, particularly considering the slowdown in smartphone demand worldwide which led to stiffer competition among smartphone makers, and the unprecedentedly long sales suspension of telecom companies in Korea.”
LG Electronics’ mobile communications business posted deficits for three straight quarters until the first quarter of this year but the amount of deficits was greatly reduced.
Its first-quarter operating loss amounted to 8.8 billion won, a sharp improvement from 43.4 billion won in the fourth quarter of last year and 79.7 billion won in the third quarter of last year. Park stressed, “We are upbeat we could achieve better results in the second quarter.”
