
LG Electronics ranked No. 3 in terms of global smartphone sales in the first quarter of this year, maintaining its No.3 spot for two straight quarters starting from the last quarter of 2013.
According to U.S. market research firm Strategy Analytics on June 11, LG Electronics posted smartphone sales of $3.05 billion in the global market in the first quarter of this year.
This figure is down 4.3 percent compared to a quarter ago when it achieved record-high smartphone sales of $3.19 billion. LG Electronics, however, kept its No. 3 spot behind Apple ($25.9 billion) and Samsung Electronics ($22.1 billion).
LG Electronics’ first-quarter sales are higher than the combined sales of Huawei ($1.71 billion) and Lenovo ($954 million). Huawei and Lenovo ranked No. 6 and No. 10, respectively.LG Electronics widened its lead over the No. 4 player Sony up to $500 million from $200 million a quarter ago.
Unlike its Chinese rivals which focused on the domestic market and low-pricedmodels, LG Electronics has focused on producing high-end premium models which paid off handsomely.
