HAUPPAUGE, N.Y., June 10, 2009 - Globecomm Systems Inc, a leading provider of communications infrastructure solutions and services on a global basis, announced today that J. Scott Christner will present a case study called "Designing the Mobile TV Platform: Inside the New Media Processing Center" at BroadcastAsia 2009 in Singapore on June 17 at 11:30 am.
Mr. Christner's presentation will describe how a top Asian mobile carrier seized the explosive growth opportunity for video by creating an advanced Media Processing Center (MPC) that can handle the multiple formats and configurations of mobile devices as well as standard DTH, cable and over-the-air broadcast. Market research firms forecast that by 2013 manufacturers will have sold nearly 2 billion devices capable of viewing IP video over 3G networks. Already, the explosive growth of the iPhone is changing the viewing habits of owners. Sixty-three percent of iPhone users have watched video on the device, compared with 28% of other mobile users.
Mr. Christner will describe the design, integration and start-up of the MPC for a major Asian carrier that began service in 2008 and offer essential advice on successful implementation and the pitfalls to avoid. A properly-designed MPC, he suggests, should ingest video and audio content in any form and have the capability to distribute it not only over mobile networks but also via satellite, cable and fiber in both scheduled and on-demand modes.
