SEOUL, KOREA - Kia Motors announced on July 1 that it sold 1,547,040 units in the first half of this year, including domestic sales of 218,764 units and exports of 1,328,276 units. This figure is up 7.0 percent from a year ago.Domestic sales fell 3.4 percent year on year but exports rose 9 percent.
AKia Motors official said, “All New Carnival, Sportage R, and Mohave which we released in the latter half of last year, showed robust sales in the first half of this year but our overall domestic sales registered a negative year-on-year growth primarily due to the release of a string of new models by rival companies, plus the increase in the number of consumers who are waiting for new models.”
In contrast, Kia Motors enjoyed brisk overseas sales thanks to growing popularity of its flagship models such as K3, Pride, Sportage R, and K5.
During the month of June, Kia Motors sold 245,234 units, including domestic sales of 35,502 units and overseas sales of 209,732 units, up 3.5 percent year on year but down 3.3 percent compared to a month ago.
