SEOUL, KOREA - Nongshim achieved record-high overseas sales in the first half of this year. The company announced on July 7 that its overseas sales, consisting of the sales of its overseas units and the amount of exports, reached an all-time high at US$245 million in the first half of this year, up 21 percent from a year ago.
Key factors behind Nongshim’s record-breaking growth in overseas sales include the popularity of its instant noodle Shin Ramyun.
During the January-June period of this year, Shin Ramyun created overseas sales of about $110 million, accounting for about a half of Nongshim’s total overseas sales.
In particular, the sales of the extra spicy ramen grew sharply in China. Nongshim China posted a 40-percent growth in its first-half sales to $91 million thanks to its effort to explore China’s western inland markets and expand its online business. In addition, the sales of Shin Ramyunwere also affected favorably by the Korean Wave there, which was recently stoked by the Korean drama titled “My Love from the Star.”
