Hyundai Motor established the plant in Izmit, a harbor city 100 kilometers east of Istanbul, in 1997. The plant is responsible for the production of the i10 and i20 models for the European markets.
Hyundai Motor invested US$69 million last year to double HAOS’s annual production capacity up to 200,000 units from 100,000 units, while changing the two-shift work scheme into threeshifts.
HAOS has produced 98,290 units in the first half of this year. Of the total, the i10 accounts for 54,175 units. The Izmit plant is set to begin the production of the new i20 from the end of this year, with its capacity utilization likely to continue to rise.
AHyundai Motor official said, “With the expansion of the plant, we created 2,500 jobs, contributing to the prosperity of the regional economy.”
