SEOUL, KOREA - Samsung Electronics decided to join the Google-led Internet of Things consortium following its earlier entry into the Intel-led IoT consortium.
Samsung Electronics announced on July 16 that it will join the Thread Group, a new IoT protocol consortium, together with Nest Labs, Silicon Labs, Free Scale, ARM, and Yale Security.The ThreadGroup is a new consortium led by Chris Boros, marketing manager at Nest Labs, a specialist in home automation.
Considering that Google recently acquired Nest Labs for US$3.2 billion, this consortium is led virtually by Google.Vinton Cerf, vice president and chief Internet evangelist for Google, is also participating in this group as an advisor.
The ThreadGroup is founded to realize anIoTvision that enables mutual compatibility through a new IP-based wireless telecommunications network protocol.
Several days ago, Samsung Electronics had announced its participation in the Open Internet Consortium (OIC), anotherIoT consortium led by Intel.
