SEOUL, KOREA - LG CNS said on July 27 that it would commercialize the "smart lighting" solution that can save energy in large-scale industrial plants. Currently the company is working on a project to apply the solution in manufacturing plants of LG Display, its group affiliate.
Since September last year, the display panel maker, in partnership with LG CNS, has implemented an energy-saving program to replace 530,000 fluorescent lamps with LED lightings in its Paju and Gumi works. The program will be completed by August this year.
An LG CNS official said, "Once the smart lighting solution is fully operational in the LG Display plants, it will be able to save the electricity bill more than 40 percent, with savings of 6.3 billion won a year. In addition, it can save in lighting device maintenance cost as well by about 500 million won." The company plans to expand the solution mostly in its group affiliate companies, after which it will pursue overseas markets.
By linking lightings with information technology, the solution allows the plant manager to control the lightings in several points within the plant. It can also permits the manager to adjust the brightness in seven levels depending on time of the day and weather conditions.
