SEOUL, KOREA - NHN Entertainment reported disappointing financial results due to the regulations on web board games. The company announced on August 7 that it posted sales of 119.8 billion won, operating loss of 7.3 billion won and net profit of 2.1 billion won for the second quarter of this year.
The regulations on web board games, which took effect from February 24, 2014, took a toll on NHN Entertainment’s performances. Worse yet, the number of users of NHN Entertainment’s major online games declined in Korea and Japan, leading to a 21.3-percent drop in sales.
Despite the deterioration of the game business, NHN Entertainment showed improvements in non-operating profit, thereby generating a net profit of 2.1 billion won.
NHN Entertainment’s second-quarter game sales consisted of PC online (67.5 billion won or 60% of the total) and mobile (44.6 billion won or 40%). By region, NHN Entertainment created game sales of 63.4 billion won in Korea and 48.7 billion won overseas.
