I am pleased to extend my heartfelt congratulations to Korea IT Times on its fifth anniversary. Since its first publication in July 2004, Korea IT Times has played an instrumental role in providing business leaders, government officials and the general public with accurate real-time news and professional analysis on the latest developments of the Korean IT industry. Today, in the short period of 5 years, Korea IT Times has grown into the leading English-language IT magazine in Korea and the global source for Korean IT industry news.
In an effort to tackle the double challenges of financial crisis and climate change, the Government has set out “low carbon, green growth” as our new national vision. Under this vision, we have formulated various action plans including three “Green of IT” and nine “Green by IT” strategies. The former focuses on fostering new growth engines from green IT products while the latter is designed to mitigate carbon emissions by promoting use of low-carbon IT products.
While the IT industry has been one of the key growth engines of our national economy for many years already, recently it has become even more significant as we pursue green IT strategies. In fact, the global green IT-related market is expected to grow by more than 60 percent annually. Taking full advantage of such developments, the Government aims to concentrate on further encouraging investment in and development of IT-based technologies and products.
In all these efforts, I am confident that Korea IT Times will be of great assistance by providing timely and insightful news on the developments of the Korean IT industry that is crucial to the effective implementation of government policies on green IT. Once again, I would like to extend my sincere congratulations and best wishes for continued success of the magazine in years to come.
H.E. Dr. Han Seung-soo, Prime Minister of the Republic of Korea
