SEOUL, KOREA - Samsung Electronics announced on September 18 that it will mass-produce 20-nanometer 6-GB LPDDR3 mobile DRAMs, first in the world.
Samsung Electronics opened the“20-nm DRAM” era by expanding the use of 20-nm technology for mobile DRAM. In March, it has launched the mass-production of 20-nm 4-GB DDR3 DRAM for use in computers.
The 20-nm mobile DRAM can transmit the data at a speed of 2,133 MB per second.Compared to existing mass-production models, the 20-nm mobile DRAM realizes more than 30 percent improvement in productivity.
The improvement of productivity means that a single wafer can yield more chips, enabling the provision of thinner, smaller and faster 3-GB solutions. 3-GB products are used mainly for high-performance smartphones.Samsung Electronics plans to release 20-nm mobile DRAMs in three varieties including 8, 6, and 4 GB.
