SEOUL, KOREA - Kakao Inc., one of leading Korean SNS companies, announced on September 23 that its new payment service KakaoPay passed the 500,000 mark in the number of subscribers in just 19 days after being launched. KakaoPay, launched on September 5, has attracted 170,000 net subscribers in a single day on September 22, with the number of its subscribers growing by 20,000 per hour and 6 per second.
A Kakao official said, “We expect the number of KakaoPay subscribers to grow at a faster pace from October when the number of affiliated shops and stores will expand in earnest.”At present, KakaoPay is available at Kakao Gift and mobile shopping app KakaoPick.
Kakao also announced that KB Kookmin Card decided to join the KakaoPay service, in addition to existing four card companies, including BC Card, Hyundai Card, Lotte Card, and Samsung Card.KB, Samsung and Lotte Card plan to offer KakaoPay service soon after they complete a test run.
