SEOUL, KOREA - The global TV market is forecast to face stiffer competition in the fourth quarter of this year.According to market research firm DisplaySearch, the world’s top-15 TV makers are expected to produce 21.1 million units of LCD TVs this month, the largest monthly output in history. This figure is up 15 percent compared to a year ago.
The suppliers’ LCD TV output stood at 15.5 million units in August and 18.7 million units in September.TV shipments, in general, are higher in October than other months. In addition, the forecast is based on the prediction that TV makers will sell a large number of TVs in the fourth quarter.
Major TV manufacturers, including Samsung Electronics, LG Electronics and Sony, lowered the retail prices of a handful of TV models, aimed at boosting their sales volume.DisplaySearch noted that the world’s No. 1 and No. 2 player Samsung and LG increased their annual TV sales target up to 48 million units and 34 million units, respectively.
