SEOUL, KOREA - Korea was overtaken byHong Kong in terms of average Internet peak connection speed, according to the“State of the Internet” report for the second quarter of 2014, issued by thecloud company Akamai.
Korea’s average peakconnection speed stood at 72.1Mbps in the second quarter of this year, lowerthan Hong Kong’s 73.9Mbps.Korea surpassed Hong Kong in the first quarter butlost its lead again to Hong Kong in the second quarter.
Korea, however, keptits No. 1 spot in terms of the average Internet connection speed.Korea’saverage Internet connection speed stood at 24.6Mbps in the second quarter,8.9Mbps higher than Hong Kong’s 15.7Mbps.
The world’s averageInternet connection speed reached 4.6Mbps, exceeding the broadband basis speedof 4Mbps, first in history.Korea also ranked No. 1 in the ultra-high-speedInternet (over 10Mbps) and broadband (over 4Mbps) prevalence rates which grewby 72 and 11 percent, respectively, from a year ago
