SEOUL, KOREA - KT is set to commercialize the “Giga Internet” which is 10 times faster than the ultra-high-speed Internet.
At the World IT Show 2014 which opened at BEXCO in Busanon October 20, KT announced that it will launch the “Olleh Giga Internet” service with a maximum speed of 1Gbps throughout the country, first among Korea’s telecom companies.
The speed of the Olleh Giga Internet is 10 times faster than the ultra-high-speed Internet (maximum speed of 100Mbps) which was commercialized in 2006.The Olleh Giga Internet takes 33 seconds to download a full HD movie as large as 4GB.
When he took office in May, KT chairman Hwang Chang-kyu announced a plan to spearhead the wire and wireless telecom market by realizing the Giga Internet era.As the first stage to realize such a vision, KT decided to commercialize the Giga Internet service.
Under the Giga Internet environment, high-capacity UHD contents could be used more easily, thereby bringing more convenience to the daily life of the people.
