SEOUL, KOREA - SK Telecom will move into the Malaysian 4G LTE market jointly with the National Pension Service. This is the first occasion for a domestic telecom service operator to set out in the world for the LTE market.

 

In partnership with Telekom Malaysia, the country's state-run telecom operator, SK Telecom will establish an LTE network across Malaysia. The partnership will take the form of SK Telecom and Telekom Malaysia investing in Packet One Networks, a local mobile telecom service provider. 

 

The Korean company will increase its stake in Packet One to 200 billion won from the first round of investment at 60 billion won. The National Pension Service will meanwhile take the half of the investment sum. An SK Telecom official said, "This is the first time for us to establish a nationwide LTE network overseas. By next year Malaysian users will be able to enjoy fast LTE services."
