
SEOUL, KOREA - LG Electronics announced on October 28 that it will haltthe production and sales of plasma TVs.Acompany official said, "We decidedto stop the production of plasmaTVs due to the declining demand. Instead, wewill place more focus on OLED TVs and LCD TVs."
The plasmaTV business has been on a declining path. Inthe past, plasmaTVs gained popularity thanks to its relatively cheap price,real-like image quality, and moderate size. PlasmaTVs, however, lost its groundas the panel technology and the quality of image evolves further toward LCD,LED, and OLED.
LG's decision not to continue plasmaTV production wasforeseen when Ha Hyun-hwoi, president of LG Electronics' home entertainmentdivision, said at the launching ceremony of the Ultra OLED TV held in Augustthat it is now reviewing the idea of withdrawing from the plasmabusiness.
