SEOUL, KOREA - LS Industrial Systems, an LS Group company specializing in electrical equipment and automation systems, will strengthen its ties with Alstom of France in the area of high-voltage direct current (HVDC) electric power transmission systems.

The company said on October 28 that its vice chairman Koo Ja-Kyun and chief technology officer Lee Hak-sung met with Michel Serra, president of Alstom in charge of China and East Asia Pacific Region, and vice president Frederic Salon at the International Convention Center in Jeju and discussed issues such as HVDC technical cooperation and development of environmentally friendly high-voltage circuit breaker.
The representatives of the two companies participated in the Conference of the Electric Power Supply Industry held for five days between October 26 and 30 in Jeju Island. LS Industrial Systems is designated as a manufacturer for HVDC devices for the joint venture between Korea Electric Power Corp. and Alstom called KAPES (KEPCO-Alstom Power Electronics Systems).
Currently LS Industrial Systems hold a total of 79 patents at home and overseas related with HVDC technologies. It also won a 67-billion-won project to connect North Dangjin with Godeok through direct current lines, the first HDVC project in Korea. For long-distance transmission HVDC systems is less expensive and suffer lower electrical losses.
