President to visit China, Myanmar, Australia

SEOUL, KOREA - President Park Geun-hye will visit China, Myanmar and Australia to attend the 22nd Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) meeting, the 17th Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) +3 Summit, the East Asia Summit (EAS) and the upcoming G20 meeting from November 9 to 16.

President Park will visit Beijing to attend the APEC summit from November 9 to 12 where she will actively participate in the discussions on strengthening cooperation and make proposals to promote co-existence and co-prosperity. She will hold summit talks with Chinese President Xi Jinping and discuss issues involving the Korean Peninsula and the Korea-China free trade agreement (FTA).


The president will then visit Naypyidaw, Myanmar`s new capital, to attend the ASEAN+3 and the EAS summits. On November 13 she will co-chair the ASEAN+3 summit as leader of the trilateral summit between Korea, Japan, and China, alongside Myanmar’s representative. Korea`s senior secretary for foreign affairs and national security, Ju Chul-ki, said, “The upcoming summit meetings are expected to contribute to bolstering international cooperation in order to make progress toward the goal of denuclearizing North Korea and support President Park’s vision for a peaceful reunification of Korea, dubbed the `Dresden Proposals.`”


Finally, Park will attend the G20 summit in Brisbane, Australia, on November 15 and 16, flying back to Seoul on November 17. During the three rounds of summit meetings, lunch meetings and dinner meetings, she will exchange opinions with world leaders on a wide range of issues, including inclusive growth for job creation, investment and infrastructure, managing risk across the world economy and employment.


Also during the G20 meetings, she will hold summit talks with Crown Prince of Saudi Arabia Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud and discuss measures to substantially boost bilateral cooperation in infrastructure construction and investment.
