SB LiMotive, a joint venture firm of Samsung SDI and Bosch, the worlds' largest car parts manufacturer in Germany, said on Monday that it has been chosen as the sole supplier of batteries for BMW's electric cars.
This is the second time for a Korean firm to supply batteries to a world-class carmaker following LG Chem's supply of batteries to General Motors early this year.
SB LiMotive will supply BMW with prototype lithium ion batteries from 2010. Afterwards, the Korean battery manufacturer will supply lithium ion batteries for BMW's electric cars for eight years from 2013 to 2020.
