
SEOUL KOREA -The sales of quantum dot TVs, one of next-generation TVs, are forecast to exceed 18 million units by 2018. In contrast, the sales of curved TVs will likely to take a downturn from 2017 after peaking in 2016.
According to market research firm Display Search on January 9, the global shipments of quantum dot TVs are forecast to exceed 5 million units in 2016 and 12 million units in 2017 after reaching 1.3 million units this year.
The global sales of quantum dot TVs are expected to pick up more in 2018 when their annual sales will likely to reach 20 million units.By region, the sales of quantum dot TVs will likely to mark the strongest growth in China, followed by North America, West Europe, and Asia-Pacific.
At the CES 2015 which was held in Las Vegas, Samsung Electronics showed off SU HD TV which is based on quantum dot technologies.
Display Search added that the annual sales of curved TVs which are estimated at 1.8 million units last year are expected to reach 8.2 million units in 2016-2017 and likely to fall to below 8 million units in 2018.
