E-government

The Ministry of Public Administration and Security decided to organize an International ICT (Information and Communication Technology) Collaboration Commission to facilitate e-government export.

The plan is to upgrade e-government export by adopting the process of diagnosing the importing country’s e-government industry as a whole and then receiving orders.

The ministry said that a memorandum of understanding was exchanged with the Vietnamese government last Sunday, Aug. 9, agreeing to form the commission.

Vice ministers of each country will be serving jointly as chairmen of the commission, which will meet regularly to discuss various issues of information and communications technology. This will include the exchange of human resources, expansion of information technology related corporations, and consulting policies regarding information technology.

“The commission will eliminate the inefficiency of having to approach each business sporadically as well as provide Korea with the opportunity to take the main role in developing information technology in Vietnam and receive orders from all major businesses at once,” said a ministry official.

Prior to this, Vice Minister Kang Byung-kyu visited Kuwait on Aug. 3 to negotiate an agreement to form a similar commission with Kuwait. He also discussed issues regarding information and communications technology in Kuwait such as building a portal service for the Kuwaiti government, improving the information network, and fortifying information security.

In addition to promoting collaboration with Egypt and Indonesia, Minister Lee Dal-gon will propose a plan to organize a commission during his scheduled visit to Morocco later this month.

The commission is expected to be an opportunity to present Korea as an IT power and serve as a stepping-stone for domestic corporations in expanding their business overseas.
