
A study said Korea's top-30 business groups are hiring as much as 5 percent of all employed people of 24,962,000. According to Chaebul.com, the website that tracks corporate performance, the total number of employees in the nation's top-30 conglomerates (excluding state-run corporations) in terms of assets was 1,282,285 as of the end of 2013.
This is equivalent to 5.14 percent of all employees according to the National Statistical Office. The number of employees with the top-30 firms has been on the rise from 1,157,384 in 2011 to 1,223,655 in 2012 (up 4.96% from 2011).
Samsung Group was ranked at the top position with 262,865 that accounts for 1.05 percent in total. The second in the rank was Hyundai Motor Group that hired 154,695 in 2013 from 142,231 in 2011 and 147,754 in 2012.
Others including LG Group, Lotte Group, SK Group, and KT hired 142,761, 90,987, 79,260, and 66,584, respectively. CJ Group and Shinsegae Group, which are focused on domestic retail businesses, have increased their employment for the past three years. As for CJ Group, its hiring number increased to 53,840 in 2013 from 43,957 in 2011 and 46,471 in 2012. Shinsegae Group increased its hiring number to 47,723 in 2013 from 28,053 in 2011.
