Camp Mobile, a subsidiary of Korea’s largest online portal Naver, announced on January 20 that its group-type mobile SNS service “Band” passed the 40-million mark in cumulative downloads.
Band’s MAU (monthly active users) is estimated at 16 million (40%), higher than SNS’s average MAU ratio of 30 percent.
Band, which was launched in August 2012 as an acquaintance-centered mobile SNS, is a mobile community based on hobbies and areas of interests. It plans to introduce a search function in March to make it easier for users to find the band in which they have interest.
Band also plans to diversify itself into a “pay-based band” where users can enjoy premium contents, and a “brand band” which can be used as a tool to enable businesses to communicate with potential clients.
ACamp Mobile official said, “We will add a variety of functions to Band which is a leading group-type SNS, aimed at developing it further into one of leading acquaintance-centered group communication services. We will make various attempts to introduce business models that are optimized for our global growth and Band itself.”
