LG Electronics and Samsung Electronics are taking a firm control of the global TV monitor market. According to market research firm IDC on April 6, LG Electronics grabbed a share of 53.0 percent in the global TV monitor market last year, followed by Samsung Electronics with 46.2 percent.
Their combined global market share reached 99.2 percent, implying that the global TV monitor market is virtually dominated by the two Korean companies. TV monitor is a device that can serve as a desktop monitor, while receiving TV signals if added with a TV tuner.
The TV monitor is gaining rising popularity particularly among the single-person households which are unwilling to purchase TVs and monitors separately.
In a situation where the number of such households is expanding not only in Korea but in other countries, the two Korean companies actively made preemptive forays into the market, thereby establishing a dominant presence.
