Kia Motors reported a healthy growth in domestic sales last year thanks to brisk demand for recreational vehicles. The auto maker announced on April 1 that its car sales reached 276,656 units last month, including domestic sales of 42,305 units and exports of 234,351. Year on year, domestic sales and exports rose 8.5 percent and 0.7 percent, respectively.
A Kia Motors official said, “Thanks to the brisk sales of RV models such as Carnival and Sorento, our domestic sales rose at a healthy clip last month.”
By model, the Morning remained as its best-selling car with its sales estimated at 7,936 units last month, followed by the new Sorento with 6,921 units, the Bongo Truck with 5,162 units, the new Carnival with 5,100 units, and the K3 with 3,688 units.
The New Sorento, which was released first in September 2014, was sold 6,921 units last month, more than three times higher than that of last year. Kia Motors, however, suffered a negative year-on-year growth of 16.7 percent in passenger car sales last month.
