Samsung Electronics’ brand-new smartphone Galaxy S6 Edge which is appointed with the world’s first double-edge display will likely to face a short supply due to rising demand.
At the Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge presentation ceremony held at Samsung’s headquarters in Seoul on April 9, its IM Division president Shin Jong-Kyun said, “When it comes to the Galaxy S6 Edge, the supply is falling behind demand.”
When launching domestic pre-order sales, Samsung Electronics expected the sales ratio between the Galaxy S6 and the S6 Edge to be about 7:3. Samsung set up a production plan based on this estimate. The result of the pre-order sales, however, was about 5:5.
Shin said, “We are striving to address the supply shortage by increasing production yield. However, we could still have some difficulties in supplies.”
As for the “bend-gate” controversy over the Galaxy S6 Edge, Shin stressed that it cannot be bent with a hand since it uses high-strength steel and the 3D curved glass has very high strength.
