KT on Sunday said it will release an iSatphone during the first half of 2010. The iSatphone is an Inmarsat-based satellite mobile phone through which users can use mobile services anywhere in the world, be it on the ground or at sea.
KT has obtained approval from the Korea Communications Commission for the service of Global Mobile Personal Communications by Satellite (GMPCS) for the launch of the iSatphone. In the past, the mobile service provider had received satellite communication services through Inmarsat, the world's leading satellite mobile communication service provider, for communications at sea.
It will be possible to use iSatphone services through GSM handsets. KT believes government agencies and corporations can use this new satellite phone conveniently in special circumstances such as emergencies or in remote regions.
