LG Electronics has demonstrated a successful LTE-CDMA handover for handsets for the first time. The demonstration was held at the Nortel R&D Center in Ottawa, Canada last week.
LG Electronics displayed uninterrupted data transmission technologies, including video downloading, web surfing, and Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP), using a handset it has developed.
LG Electronics' handset, or the M13 4G LTE trial device, is adaptable to both CDMA EV-DO (850/1900MHz) and LTE (700MHz). It obtained approval for the handset from the US Federal Communications Commission in June.
Based on about 300 LTE-related patents it has obtained and its success in the world's first demonstration of commercialized LTE technology in 2007, LG Electronics is now leading the standardization of LTE in the global market.
