LG Electronics is coming out with a new slim TV known as the OLED TV. The pictures on the screen are quite big and it is the slimmest TV on the market. This television has no backlight and does not need a source of light. These televisions weigh less than 2 kilograms and are 3 millimeters thin.
On September 4, 2009 this TV will be featured in IFA 2009, an event that features new consumer electronics and home appliances which will be held in Berlin, Germany.
LG Electronics will first release this product in Korea in November and other countries next year. Kwon Hwe-won, President of LCD TV Business, said, “To be the number one used common product for the next generation of display, OLED TVs must reach at least 40 inches.”
The difference between OLED and LCD is that OLED doesn’t need back-lighting and weighs much less. In addition, OLED TV velocity is 1000 times faster than the LCD. The OLED TV market is mainly in North America, Western Europe, Japan and other advanced countries. There are estimated growth overviews which predict that in 2011 there will be 320,000 of these TV’s worldwide, 1,170,000 in 2012, and 2,330,000 in 2013.
