POSCO Energy has completed the construction of three liquefied natural gas power plants in Incheon. The company held an opening ceremony on April 30 at the construction site in Incheon's Seo-gu. The combined-cycle LNG power plants Nos. 7, 8, and 9 will replace the two private-sector power plants Nos. 1 and 2 that will be closed. The total generation capacity of the three plants is 1,260 megawatts. Of these, No. 7 power plant has been operating since last summer.

The plants' power generation efficiency is 55.5 percent, 12 percentage points higher than the existing power plants Nos. 1 and 2 and 6 percentage points higher than the LNG combined-cycle power plant average. The plants are equipped with environmentally friendly devices such as those reducing nitrogen oxide emissions.

At the ceremony, POSCO Group chairman Kwon Oh-joon said, "Just like the parent company POSCO created something out of nothing by becoming one of the world's most competitive steel companies, POSCO Energy is also writing a new chapter in the nation's energy industry. It is leading the high-efficiency fuel-cell business and renewable energy business while expanding its presence in overseas markets such as Indonesia."
