
Samsung Display Co. saw the biggest share of ultra HD (UHD) panel sales in April among the world’s top six makers of such sets, data from market tracker WitsView said Tuesday.
Samsung’s UHD panel sales last month accounted for 25 percent of its overall panel figure, while LG Display Co.’s figure was 15 percent. AU Optronics and Innolux Corp. of Taiwan also had a rate of 15 percent.
UHD units shipped by the world’s top six panel manufacturers last month hit 3.1 million panel shipments, or approximately 16 percent of all panel shipments by these companies. Their combined panel shipments exceeded 19 million units, up 5.4 percent.
WitsView said global TV brands since early this year have changed their priority to putting out more innovative and high-margin products with value-added features, adding that larger screens and UHD figure more prominently in this strategy.
Among UHD panel sales, 55-inch sets accounted for 35 percent last month, 49-inch 34.5 percent, 48-inch 20.8 percent and 65-inch 5 percent.
A PR Newswire news release said TechNavio analysts expect the global UHD TV market to rise at a compound annual growth rate of 45.4 percent from 2014 to 2019.
