Korea and Vietnam have discussed ways to cooperate in the IT sector, Korea's e-government technology in particular.
As part of such bilateral cooperation, a total of 13 senior Vietnamese government officials, including Nguyen Huu Vu, vice minister at the Prime Minister's Office of Vietnam, arrived in Korea on Sept. 8.
They came here to conduct a feasibility study of Vietnam's government integrated data center (GIDC) building project, which has been underway in accordance with the memorandum of understanding exchanged between the Ministry of Public Administration and Security (MOPAS) and the Vietnamese Prime Minister's Office in May.
Since their arrival, the Vietnamese government officials have so far visited the Government Integrated Computer Center and the Public Procurement Service in Daejeon, National Computing & Information Agency in Gwangju, and Samsung SDS software research institute in Suwon, and KT IDC in Bundang, Seongnam, both in Gyeonggi Province.
Second Vice Minister of MOPAS Kang Byung-kyu met with the Vietnamese delegation on Sept. 11. During the meeting, Vietnamese officials said they were deeply impressed by the high level of Korea's e-government technology and they felt the need to build Vietnam's own government data center. In reply, Kang promised to provide support to Vietnam in training technical personnel to operate the Vietnamese government data center.
