Samsung Electronics Most Popular DRAM Product

Samsung Electronics recently posted a 35.9% market share in the second quarter of this year with their DRAM products. This surpassed the company's second quarter goal, which was set at 35%. Additionally, they say their DRAM division will reach a market share of 40% by the end of next year's 2nd quarter, possibly sooner. Quarter 1 results posted a 33.1% market share, showing a 2.8% increase by the end of Quarter 2.

Samsung's DDR3 DRAM product is undoubtedly a success. Within a couple of years, Samsung's DRAM products surpassed the highest market share ever, which was 32.2% set in 2002.

However, among all this financial success, Samsung is looking to create more efficient ways to manufacture these products as well as improve product quality. A Samsung official stated, "We are trying to create strategies to efficiently manage our manufacturing parts as well as increase the number of products manufactured. We are using a new generation of technology to create these products at a cheaper cost but still maintaining the quality."

Samsung, Hynix, Elpida, and Micron are the top four companies that sell DRAM products. In the first quarter of this year, these 4 companies combined for 81% market shares which increased to 84.7% by the end of the 2nd Quarter.

The majority of DRAM products sold is mostly supplied by the companies Samsung and Hynix, which are the only two DRAM companies from Korea. These two companies combine for over half (57.2%) of the market shares of these DRAM products. This 2nd quarter created revenues of 45 billion won (US$36.9 million), a 26.8% increase from Quarter 1.
