KERI Agrees with Chinese, Japanese Institutes on Tech Cooperation

Korea Electrotechnology Research Institute

The Korea Electrotechnology Research Institute (KERI) agreed with the Central Research Institute of Electric Power Industry (CRIEPI) of Japan and the China Electric Power Research Institute (CEPRI) on cooperation in developing state of the art electric technologies, including Smart Grids and new renewable energies. The three leading electric power think tanks reached the agreement through a workshop held at KERI in Changwon, South Gyeongsang Province on Sept. 15-16.

In addition to those leading research institutes from the three countries, experts from the Taiwan Power Research Institute (TPRI) and the Korea Electric Power Research Institute (KEPRI) also took part in the workshop as observers. About 40 experts from Korea, China and Japan presented more than 20 theses on the intelligent Smart Grid and new renewable energies.

Participants in the workshop, including Lyu Tae-hwan, president of the KERI, agreed to step up cooperation in electric power systems, electrical diagnosis, microgrid, superconduction, and new materials technologies, which can contribute to developing each country's electric technologies.

The three institutes also agreed to give priority to seeking cooperation in developing technologies for Smart Grid, which can contribute to developing the national economy, and to exchange experts and information on related technologies.

The three institutes decided to hold next year's conference in Japan.
