It's an affirmative support project for 3,900 workers who are in the car industry, according to the Ministry of Knowledge Economy and Ministry of Labor.  The two ministries will begin to hold “Retraining for Holding Jobs” programs.  This is expected to help solve serious employment insecurity in the shrinking ground of car manufacturing.

It involves two important steps.  First, the Ministry of Labor pays the workers three-fourths of their original wages with the Ministry’s budget, if a company applies for a subsidy for maintaining employment. The Ministry of Knowledge Economy, then, provides funding for employee education programs.

It targets small businesses which don’t have the capability to educate their own workers and cannot offer their workers job security. And it chooses 3,900 persons from those companies which registered for this project and satisfied the standards of the retraining service.

The period of education is from February 16 to August 28.  The training consists of various appropriate programs like “Leadership in the Workplace,” “Animating the Systems Improving Car Production,” and “Trends of the Car Industry and Future Technologies.”

The Korea Automotive Technology Institute (KATECH) manages this whole project which involves receiving applications for training, choosing the targets and dealing with every aspect of training.

If companies want their employees to attend these training programs, they can refer to a public notice of the business enforcement on the 19th, or attend a lecture tour in each city. They can also get more information from KATECH's website.
