
Despite its downward adjustment of sales estimates on the Galaxy 6 Series, Samsung Electronics widened its lead over Apple Inc. in the global smartphone market.
According to DRAMeXchange’s TrendForce report on July 22, Samsung Electronics gained a share of 26.8 percent in the global smartphone market in the second quarter of this year, followed by Apple with 16.4 percent, Huawei with 7.6 percent, Xiaomi with 5.9 percent, and LG with 5.8 percent.
A quarter ago, Samsung had a share of 26.8 percent, followed by Apple with 20.5 percent, Huawei with 6.9 percent, LG with 5.5 percent, and Xiaomi with 5.4 percent. The gap between Samsung and Apple widened to 10.4 percentage points in the second quarter from 6.3 percentage points in the first quarter.
Global smartphone shipments totaled 304.09 million units in the second quarter, up 1.9 percent year on year. TrendForce revised its forecast for this year’s smartphone shipment growth downward to 8.2 percent from 11.6 percent.
