There are forty-six companies in Korea who make the finest goods in the world, and they have been chosen additionally as the ones who lead in our national goal, boosting exports.

On January 19th, the Ministry of Knowledge Economy presented certificates to those forty-six companies which already dominate their world market or have a strong likelihood to lead their market in the near future at the Hotel Intercontinental in COEX.

There are fifty-six products from forty-six corporations which received certificates, such as steam cleaners from Haan, Lencell sheets of 3D graphics from Mireco, vacuum plasma cleaning systems from JS and 8th generation LCD Glass Etching equipment from SFA.

Not only did the usual suspects of LG Electronics and Hyundai Heavy Industries show up, but also technology-focused small and medium businesses such as M&W which makes wireless digital laser repeaters, Powertron Engineering which makes industrial battery quality diagnostic testers, KBM Corporation which makes vacuum metallizing filaments and coils, and Coned which makes digital x-ray systems.  Most notable were Simmtech which produces memory module and BOC boards, and IM which produces DVD and Blu-ray disk pickup mechanisms.  Both of these companies create excellent products of the highest global quality and have solidified their respective positions as powerful technological companies.

The reason why people expect great things from these companies is that their actual exports surpassed a other industries’ exports by a large margin.  According to investigation into about 475 of world class products, the amount of exports had increased on average annually 31.3% for four years from 2004 to 2007, which were recorded as high growth rates.  Also, the amount of exports of those top-ranked goods were close to half of the total export amount from 31% in 2004 to 48% in 2007, in contrast to all the other exports combined.

The best items whose amount of exports are over $100 million occupied 96% of the global market.  There are many items which earned more than $1 billion in exports such as computers, refrigerators, air conditioners, microwaves, and LCD TVs.  Finally, three products reported exports of over $10 billion – memory semiconductors, LCD monitors and mobile phones.

Lee Youn-ho, Minister of Knowledge Economy, emphasized: “We expect companies which are certified as the world’s top producers will lead us to achieve our export target which is set at $450 billion for this year. So, we are going to do our best to support them with effective advertising and marketing.”
