Dongbu Daewoo Electronics has introduced the small-sized kimchi refrigerator designed for singles or households with two members.
The size of the new refrigerator is only one quarter of the size of a large-size Kimchi refrigerator.
Dongbu Daewoo Electronics said that it plans to increase its share on a gradual basis with a niche product targeting one-person and two-person households.
The cutting-edge compact-sized kimchi refrigerator offers 102 liters of storage, the smallest in Korea. The one-door stand-type model will be sold at a price of about 600,000 won.
The Dongbu Daewoo said that the new model uses only 50 percent of the energy of the previous model.
Korea’s kimchi refrigerator market, however, reached a saturation point, dominated by major electronics firms like Samsung Electronics and LG Electronics. Last year’s shipments of kimchi refrigerators stood at 1,045,921 units, down 4 percent from a year ago.
