Lotte Group chairman Shin Dong-bin on Thursday met with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and discussed ways to support in Lotte's culture-shopping complex development in New Delhi, Mumbai and Chennai.
Lotte Group said on August 27 that Mr. Shin held a face-to-face talk with the Indian Prime Minister at his office in New Delhi. He said in the meeting, "Thanks to your economic team's economic stimulus policies, the Indian economy is growing fast for the past few years. I'd like to ask for your support for helping your economy grow areas including retail, hotels as well as large-complex construction sectors.
Shin proposed in the meeting to build railway stations in New Delhi, Mumbai, and Chennai, based on its experience in successfully constructing similar station buildings in Korea in partnership with railroad authorities. The latest meeting was arranged three months after the Prime Minister's state-visit to Korea in May this year. Before his interview, he had inspected the New Delhi and Nizamuddin railway stations in Delhi.
Lotte is actively pursuing to transfer its know-how in building railway station-retail spaces to countries like Vietnam and China. It opened Lotte Center Hanoi in September last year, followed by the signing of a memorandum to build an "Eco-Smart City" in Ho Chi Minh City. It is currently building a Lotte World Chengdu with the total floor area of 570,000 square meters with a plan to complete by 2019.
